This week just before Kirihimete, NHHT along with support from Kahui Tu Kaha and others as part of Housing First secured a kainga for one of our whanau. Housing First Whangarei is mahitahi with NHHT, Kahui Tu Kaha and One Double Five Whare Awhina Community House, supported by the Whangarei City Council and funded through government housing targeted at the housing crisis. A united approach to tackle the housing crisis and find local housing solutions. Kainga Pumanawa  the name given at the Housing First launch reinforces kaupapa Maori frameworks and Whanau Ora principles. The programme is aimed to reach the chronically homeless to secure a place to call home, while addressing the other issues that lead to their situation. With a housing shortage in the north and the complexities surrounding homeless whanau it was a great morning to be part of the karakia and blessing for the whanau moving into the whare.

NHHT and Kahui Tu Kaha Kaimahi and kaumatua outside the kainga for the first whanau to secure a whare as part of the Housing First collaboration.
