Ngati Hine Health Trust supported Kainga Pumanawa – Launch of Housing First Whangarei at Kaka Porowini Marae on Friday, 23rd August 2019 ensuring marae tikanga and manaakitanga was shown to the many manuhiri who had attended the launch.
Housing First Whangarei is mahitahi with Ngati Hine Health Trust, Kahui Tu Kaha and One Double Five Whare Awhina Community House, supported by the Whangarei City Council and funded through government housing targeted at the housing crisis. This is a united approach to tackle the housing crisis and implement a local housing solution.
Kainga Pumanawa reinforces kaupapa Maori frameworks and Whanau Ora principles. The programme is aimed to reach the chronically homeless to secure a place to call home, while addressing the other issues that lead to their situation. The launch attended by several other Housing First initiatives from around the country is the start of recognising the need for homeless whanau to have a kainga.
