Reflections: Te Ahuareka o Ngāti Hine 2023

31 March - 2 April 2023: Ngāti Hine Health Trust were proud to be a Gold sponsor for Te Ahuareka o Ngāti Hine providing comprehensive support via funding, assets, logistics, communications, marketing promotion and website, kaimahi volunteers and hauora services.

The theme was Waipuna Ora, the spring of life, acknowledging the water and various water ways and its role in sustaining life. The three-day event, which was held at Otiria Marae in Moerewa, provided an opportunity to promote Ngāti Hine Health Trust hauora, housing and career services which resulted in an impressive number of potentials looking to embark on a career within the Trust.

Ngāti Hine FM, with the support of Tautoko FM, delivered a Te Ahuareka broadcast special and livestream for whanau overseas for the duration of the festival. We were also boosted with a prime-time slot to showcase the Trusts' articulation of Te Tū o Ngāti Hine - and, as the pictures show, we brought it all!

Ngāti Hine Health Trust haka

The ihi, wehi and wana wrapped in a powerful performance of Ngāti Hine waiata and haka - with only five weeks of practice! Hara mai! One of the many highlights included the opportunity to whānaungatanga given practices were held in both Torongare and Hineamaru offices.

Narsa Cherrington, one of the Trusts' long-serving nurses, who sadly passed away in February, was also commemorated. Massive acknowledgements to all of our kaimahi, those on-stage who dedicated themselves to learning new waiata or coming out of comfort zones and those off-stage who prepared and organised the kakahu, vehicle logistics and sideline support - mīharo!

A special mihi to tutors: Taura Cherrington, Pita Moon, Khyla Rupapera, Te Puawai Walters, Tikarohia Henare, Phoenix Sofaea and Louis Paul - seasoned performers who provided guidance and hints on overcoming stage fright as many of the kapa had never performed before.

Hoea te waka! Next stop: Te Matatini 2025!
